Hello to all! For those who may not know me, my name is Andy and I currently reside in Suwanee, Georgia. This is my first ever food blog so please bear with me. If you wanna learn more about me you can click on “Oh, Lady” in the menu up there. The link will lead you to some additional information about me.

Well, to start of my first post… I will post a review on one of my favorite places to eat.

Honey Pig
3473 Old Norcross Rd, Ste 304
Duluth, GA 30096
(770) 476-9292

This place has got to be one of my favorite places to eat out (usually with a bunch of people). The atmosphere is lively, the workers are friendly, the food is great, the good portions of food, and it’s Korean BBQ for a reasonable price. Honey Pig might be a little bit expensive for a student’s budget but it’s definitely worth the try. The restaurant’s main dish in Sam Gyub Sal (pork belly) but they have other meats and dishes on the menu as well. Okay, pork belly might sound a little bit weird to people who aren’t used to Korean food, but it’s the same thing as bacon except it’s better. I went last Saturday to buy my friend lunch and usually when we go we’ll order the Wine Sam Gyub Sal (와인삼겹살) but this time we went for the Ggot sal (꽃살, boneless prime rib). I must say that it was absolutely delicious.

Once you enter Honey Pig you’ll notice that all the tables have these drum looking things. Well this is called a Sot Ddoo Kkung (솥뚜껑) which is also known as the lid of an iron kettle. These lids aren’t just for sealing kettles but they’re used to cook on. Once you order your meat a waiter will bring out some seasoned beansprouts and kimchee and place them on the hot lid. The beansprouts and kimchee are good for eating with the meat but also can be eaten without. Remember! It’s best to eat them after they’ve been cooking on the lid for a while. Other side dishes and come with the meat are sweet wasabi daikon wrap (personally my favorite), slices of thin mochi wrap, seasoned green onion, fresh garlic, lettuce, ssam jang (meat dipping sauce), and chili sauce. All of the side dishes go very well with the meat they serve you.

Soon after the meat is placed on the hot lid along with onion, thin slices of potato, and button mushrooms. You just wait for the cows to cook. The waiters will do most of the cooking for you but don’t be lazy and just sit there because no one is helping you.

Another thing you can do is place a couple of mochi slices on the lid. I personally like it both ways but my friend really likes it slightly cooked. Make sure that if you do this don’t leave them on there too long or else it’ll start sticking to the lid. So if you’d like to you can place mochi slices on the lid for maybe 20 seconds or so. The mochi slices and sweet wasabi daikon wraps are for wrapping the meat in but you can be creative and use if for something else, haha.

The meat in cooking process. Looks good, huh? The pieces of cow really melt in your mouth but if you want that mouth melting effect make sure the meat doesn’t cook TOO long. I want some right now D:

You might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned anything about rice. The waiters are Honey Pig don’t give you rice while you’re eating your meat but yes, you can ask for it anytime. The main reason they don’t give you rice is because…

They make you fried rice at the end of your meal as a bonus! How awesome is that? This fried rice seriously has got to be one of the tastiest I’ve ever tried. Once you’re almost done with your meat a waiter will ask you if you want fried rice. SAY YES even if you’re full. The fried rice is sooooo worth it. They’ll soon bring out rice with diced kimchee, diced lettuce, and cut up dried seaweed in a bowl along with dwen jang jjigae (된장찌개, bean paste soup) to enjoy with your fried rice. The goodies in the bowl all go on to the lid and the waiter will cook fried rice right on the spot. If you have left over meat, beansprout, onion, mushroom, and kimchee, the waiter will cut it all up into small pieces and put that into the fried rice as well. Nothing goes to waste in Honey Pig! This great meal only cost me $45 (with tax and tip). You might think that’s a little pricey but if you’re into good foods as I am, it won’t even matter.

A little tip: If you’re going to Honey Pig for the first time try the pork belly first because that’s what it’s known for. If you want to prime rib too… just get both!

Cons: The water bottles are too small.

This post has been very long but those who stuck with it till the end, thank you and I hope you enjoyed. I will be updating with other yummy things very soon. Thank you. Bye.
